Researchers Opportunities Guidelines

Overview

The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) have developed the Actuarial Research Clearinghouse to link faculty and practicing actuaries for collaborative work on practical business and societal problems.

Organizations are encouraged to post their research needs on the Actuarial Research Exchange page, where faculty researchers can review the opportunities and respond to those that best match their research interests. Details on how to post research opportunities are described below.

Note: The Actuarial Foundation has been asked by the CAS and CIA to host the Actuarial Research Exchange.

Research Guidelines

  1. Research opportunities should be submitted using the online form. Although not all fields are required, it is requested that organizations provide as much information as possible.
  2. Research opportunities should be identified as public research (conducted with the intent to generate published papers) or proprietary research (conducted for the sole use of a company).
  3. Research opportunities should be identified as funded or unfunded. Funded research opportunities should include details on the amount of funding available and the schedule of payments.
  4. The primary goal of the research exchange is to match academic researchers and practicing actuaries for collaborative work. However, consultants are not restricted from bidding for research opportunities. Research organizations who want "academics only" should specify this in the "specific experience or qualification" box in the Research Opportunities Form.
  5. Specific experience or qualifications required of the researchers should be clearly stated in the posting, as should instructions for responding to the posting.
  6. A contact person must be included, along with appropriate contact data (phone, fax, and email).
  7. Each posting will be displayed for a period of 60 days, with options to renew the posting. Please contact Debbie McCormac before the posting expires. If the research need has been filled before 60 days, the organization will need to contact Debbie McCormac or remove the posting.
  8. No hard copy or faxes will be accepted. Research opportunities must be submitted in electronic format via the online form.
  9. Questions about submitting a research opportunity should be directed to Debbie McCormac.

Disclaimer: The posting of a research opportunity does not constitute knowledge, endorsement or approval by the CAS, CIA or The Actuarial Foundation, nor does the CAS, CIA or The Actuarial Foundation accept any liability for the content of any posting.
