Brownell Middle School
Grosse Point, MI Newly created federal (No Child Left Behind) and state mandates (Adequate Yearly Progress) dictate that by the school year 2013-14, 100% of our students have to meet minimum state benchmarks in mathematical computation and concepts as determined by state testing. We propose that by raising the level of awareness in math through creative, supportive, and fun math activities provided through Actuary mentors, these students will acquire an increased understanding of the importance of math in their daily life, as well as in their careers. Actuarial mentors will help students learn math activities centered on two primary goals: 1. Correlate the importance of math to real life and 2. Improve the understanding of key mathematical concepts as it relates to improving the mastery of those concepts on assignments and standardized tests. KWL (What I know, what I want to know, & what I learned) Student Surveys as they relate to grade level and objectives as listed in the above section of mentoring activities. These surveys would be used before the program started each year and after the Program ended each year. Surveys for teachers and mentors to determine if program goals are being met. Feedback will be used to monitor and adjust strategies to improve the program, activities, and student outcomes. Increase in student scores on assignments & standardized tests will be a result of this program. |
