MAGIC, (Math And Games Integrated Curriculum) is a weekly hands-on manipulative and game oriented enrichment math program developed to help both underachieving and gifted students in fourth and fifth grade. The program is designed to promote math achievement, appreciation and excitement for students in grades four and five.
Actuarial mentors work with Conder students in Focus Groups that are related to one of the following mathematical strand areas: Numbers and Operations, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis & Probability, and Algebra. Some of the commercial games and manipulatives teachers and mentors will incorporate include Everyday Math games, Measure Works, and ETA Cuisenaire rods.
Mentors also work with students in After School MAGIC Club which is intended to reinforce basic computational skills such as multiplication and division for underachieving students in grades four and five.
Morning Math Munchers is intended to provide challenging experiences for gifted students in fourth and fifth grade. Students and their mentors complete math investigation problems that are pulled from the Everyday Math Weekly Workouts books. |
