Excel Academy Charter School requested a supplementation to their math program for two groups of students; gifted who need additional motivation and students who struggle in math when taught in traditional ways.

The MAGIC (math & games inspiring children) program is a once a week after school club and open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Activities, games and manipulatives that challenge students who struggle with difficult concepts will be introduced. The family math night is being expanded to include Art, with the focus on patterns and geometry.

A field study to the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum is planned for the student in 7th and 8th grade. Students will perform a flight simulation, take a tour of the museum and build and test fly a model plane.

The lead actuary and mentors will assist and modify activities or games for appropriate groups in weekly meetings, be involved with the Math/Art night and accompany students to the museum.
