A Message to Administrators
Dear School Principal or Administrator:As you can see, ASA Grants are a wonderful opportunity for your school to benefit – not only from an additional source of funding – but from a grant program that brings volunteers and educators together in partnerships to enhance students’ mathematics achievement. For the professional educators, grants have elicited innovative thinking regarding curriculum designs, teaching methodologies and student achievement. Most importantly, students are involved in new opportunities to develop and integrate core life skills such as communication, computation, problem solving and interpersonal skills that also contribute to the development of students’ personal financial literacy. For the actuarial profession, these projects highlight the concern of actuaries about quality education. In each of our Advancing Student Achievement projects, actuaries are participating as interested, committed school resources that place highly honed management, communication, interpersonal, mathematics and financial skills at the service of children’s learning. We believe schools should be provided wide latitude to propose a mentoring program that is closely tailored to their school’s unique needs. That’s why we ask that each group prepare a detailed and specific proposal for funding for their school’s program, as outlined in our Proposal for Funding. If your school should decide to apply for an ASA Grant (and we very much hope that it will), we suggest you ask for a volunteer on your staff to serve as the point person for the proposal and program. We, at The Actuarial Foundation, will make ourselves available to provide assistance in building your proposal. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Foundation office at 847-706-3535 with any questions you may have. Again, we hope you’ll consider an Advancing Student Achievement Grant for your school. Sincerely,
Eileen C. Streu, CAE |
