Grant: $11,125
The Martha Gaskins Middle School Pre-College Engineering Program (MGPEP) was created to add to the school’s current math and technology curriculum. With the cooperative efforts of actuarial volunteers, the MGPEP program was created for students with a genuine interest in engineering and math related careers. The program is also designed to foster creative thinking in mathematics, introduce students to prepositional logic and reduce fear of higher-level mathematics and technology.
The student body is introduced to instructional games in the classroom setting and an academic games club has been formed to give students an intensified approach to set theory, Algebra I concepts, logic, and math sentence structure. Students have the opportunity to qualify for the National Academic Games Tournament.
Much of this funding will be for students to participate in State and National competitions with assistance from the actuarial mentors representing various local companies. |
