The Mu Alpha Theta organization is a National Mathematics Honor Society encompassing over 55,000 students in more than 1,300 schools. They are dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school.
The Actuarial Foundation provided funding for an actuarial speaker at the Mu Alpha Theta Annual Convention. The presentation included probabilistic mathematics involved in the daily life of an actuary. Different scenarios, which come about mathematically eventually leading the actuary to make recommendations of costs, were discussed.
Mu Alpha Theta promotes and rewards students, in high school, achieving excellence in the popularization, teaching and development of mathematics through the media of research, writing, interactive web page design and student-run educational programs. |
